How do I find the Studio?
The studio is located on the third floor of Center City Gym. It can be accessed by either the front or back entrance. Once you are in the stairwell, follow appropriate signage up to the third floor, where you will walk right into the studio! The stairs to get to class end up being a great warm up for pilates!
How much does a Class or Class Package cost?
As of right now, Mat classes are 20$ per class. There are two class package options available. A 6 class pack for 100$ and a 10 class pack for 140$. Both of these are a great deal and perfect way to save money while expanding your pilates practice!
What should I bring to my first Pilates class?
The only thing I think anyone needs to bring to my classes is a water bottle! There are mats provided and many of my clients are able to successfully move without the assistance of grippy socks. However, if you have a favorite mat or pair of socks, feel free to bring those with you!
Who created Pilates?
Pilates was created by a man named Joseph Pilates, a German-born physical culturist, created Pilates in the early 20th century. He developed the exercise system while interned as an enemy alien in England during World War I. He designed the exercises to rehabilitate and strengthen the bodies of injured soldiers. Pilates was originally named Contrology, emphasizing the importance of control during all of the different movements.
Is Pilates just for women?
No! Pilates is not just for women. While Pilates may be perceived as a female only exercise, it is actually a dynamic form of exercise that benefits both men and women.
Joseph Pilates, the founder of Pilates, originally designed the exercises for injured soldiers and dancers, regardless of gender. Today, Pilates is practiced by people of all genders, including professional athletes, dancers, and individuals seeking to improve their overall fitness and well-being. Pilates is for everybody!
How often should you do Pilates?
For general fitness and well-being, aim for 2-3 Pilates sessions per week. Beginners may find 1-2 sessions a week sufficient, while more advanced individuals may start to find more benefits from 3-5 sessions. Ultimately, the ideal frequency depends on your fitness goals, experience level, and how your body responds to the exercise.
Can you do Pilates if you’re pregnant?
Yes, Pilates can be a safe and beneficial form of exercise during pregnancy when modified appropriately. It's recommended to consult with a healthcare provider before starting or continuing Pilates while pregnant. Modifications are often necessary, especially in the later trimesters, to accommodate the changing body and avoid exercises that put excessive pressure on the core or pelvic floor.
I completed my teaching training while pregnant and have taught/practiced throughout my entire second pregnancy! I wanted to know how it felt to do a lot of the movements myself before I taught others who were pregnant. Anybody, pregnant or not can do pilates, you just need to listen to your body and modify when necessary!
How do I sign up?
There is a spot to sign up on the homepage, by clicking book now, you will be directed to the booking calendar. From there, choose your class date and time and enter your information to book your class! You can also download the momence app for easier booking and rebooking!
How does the waitlist work?
The waitlist starts once a class has 10 people signed up. The waitlist is a First come, first serve. When a spot opens up, the first wait-lister is automatically added and immediately and notified by SMS. Wait-listers can see their place in line from their Momence account.
What should I wear to do pilates?
You should wear clothes that you are comfortable to move around in. It’s normally warm in the studio so layers won’t be necessary! I’ve found it easier to avoid baggy sweatpants/sweatshirts, as they can be slightly movement restricting. Pilates is done barefoot, or you could wear regular or grip socks!
